Para sa mga Ignoranteng 90s Kids
by Sankage Steno
ignorant adjective \ˈig-n(ə-)rənt\ – lacking knowledge or comprehension of the things specified; also resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence; in Tagalog, kulang sa talino o kaalaman. Source: Merriam Webster.
Gago nga siguro ako, pero hindi ako naniniwalang Marcos is the best thing that happened to the Philippines. Bakit?
Nagbabayad pa rin tayo ngayon at magbabayad probably hanggang 2025 or longer.
Martial Law noon, so natural, pinasara ang media.
E pa’no suspended ang writ of habeas corpus.
Di tulad ngayon, may NPA pa.
Katulong nila ang military wing nila na New People’s Army.
At, take note, may kinalaman ‘to sa Sabah issue natin ngayon.
Sa lahat ng nagsasabi na mas mabuti ang buhay nila nuong panahon ni Marcos: I come from a family where it would be easy for me to say ‘mas mabuti ang buhay nuong panahon ni Marcos’. We had farms and we benefited from Marcos’ agricultural programs. Also, my grandfather was a member of the PSG and a lot of my uncles and other relatives were in the military. So we had the privileges accorded to military families, but at the same time this gave us an ‘insider’ view of what was really happening behind the cameras of the controlled media. I am not here to wipe out any good memory of Marcos, but I aim for everyone to remember him based on actual facts, not propaganda.
Nasa internet age na tayo, and posts that cleary misleads the uninitiated doesn’t help in bestowing ‘correct/factual’ historical perspective to the next generation.
If you think about it, upto now there are people who still argue that Hitler is a great leader, being able to accomplish what he did in great magnitutde, being able to raise the image of Germany as a world powe. Marcos also accomplished great things and lifted the image if the Philippines in the international arena. Wag na tayo lumayo pa, I would even argue that Gloria Arroyo is great leader, even more intelligent than Marcos.. but are these the kind of leaders that we would like to inspire other politicians or the future generations? Sure I will give Marcos (and Imelda) their due recognition for whatever they have established/constructed. But to claim that the Philippines is at its peak during Marcos’ administration is a blatant twist of history. Sure let’s paint Marcos as a whole person (with his good and bad or maybe even admire his leadership skills), but anything that lauds him as a hero or for more than what he was – A dictator (it takes a great leader to be one) and a Plunderer – I feel it is an insult to the generation who lived through Martial law and the Filipinos as a whole. We may view history through our own (or our family’s / hometown’s lenses) but history is not a Belief System, instead, it must be based on actual facts.

I hope you allow sometime to read this piece from MR. Alvin Campomanes : “Rizal once said in his Filipinas Dentro de Cien A?os: “in order to foretell the destiny of a nation, it is necessary to open the book that tells her past.” If many of our countrymen do not even bother to study our past, how can we know where we are heading as a nation? The willingness of many of our fellow Filipinos to forget the massive crimes of the Marcos regime speaks much about our sense of history (or the lack of it). The Marcoses have been peddling a reconciliation based on oblivion since they had returned to the country. The task at hand, I believe, is to forge among ourselves an inviolable national memory of the injustices and outrage of the Marcos era. We must make the truth clear to our fellow Filipinos so that future attempts at historical revisionism would not be possible. This is a humble contribution to the creation of such a national memory. ”
“I cannot afford to be silent when historical truth is being pretzeled by forces that are so determined to make our people forget. I surmise that these attempts at historical revisionism are intentionally being circulated in cyberspace where it could be picked up by young Filipinos who do not have a memory of the violence and corruption of the martial law regime. These young people will comprise the majority of the voting population in the near future when, perhaps, Bongbong runs for president. To blame the EDSA People Power for our misfortunes and to praise the dictator as a messiah that we had slandered and crucified is a despicable display of cowardice. ”

The fact is, we drove away a dictator more than 25 years ago and we were the toast of the International Community.

Why should we not vote for them? So the fault of the parents is also the fault of there children? Marcoses are all professionals and care about there people, the best example is Ilocos Norte. It’s the mistakes of there parents that we think of them like that, we should not include that there children will do the same. Bong bong and imee marcos already have the knowledge of the mistakes of there parents, so they surely learned there lesson already. The marcoses still deserves to be voted.

i disagree. unless they admit, apologize for and pay for their mistakes in the past, they don’t deserve to be voted

But it’s not Bong bong and imee marcos fault, it’s there parents. Both of them where still a child when this events happen. That past cannot be changed it already happened. And there already repaying there mistakes by good governance on there positions.

yes, maybe it’s not their fault, but i don’t think growing up and having megalomaniac, problematic and dysfunctional people as parents would not rub off even a tad bit to the children. also, i don’t think it’s good governance to cover up your family’s atrocities in the past, not say sorry and, worst of all, not pay for their crimes.

Telling people not to vote for someone is very immature. Forcing what you want to others won’t let you prove your point/opinion. This is more of an attack rather than “facts”. Your sources might be credible or not but what is stopping everyone from saying that these are cover ups and conspiracies that simple manipulation the government could do? There aren’t really concrete facts but just more words and mere speculation. What surprises me the most is that the “Massacre” which caused the insurgency was considered a “myth” or never occurred until President Aquino confirmed such atrocities. Quite convenient since it was just a month ago. Either way politicians are never transparent, when they are it’s either it is an advantage that you know or an advantage that would undermine a rival. You call this research? Don’t make me laugh.

i fully agree with you 100%! how ironic that globe service reps readily apologize for what they think are errors that need correction while the marcos children continue to regale filipinos with their so-called public service (kuno!) and interaction with the “beautiful social people.” were we born yesterday to believe that the marcos children had no idea about their parents’ brazen plunder of the government coffers? as smart as they are and as wily as any “at all cost win” type of politician, why should they now continue to stay as public government officials? are we this dense to be easily taken for a ride?

So informative yet so one-sided. Sana man lang inalam mo rin yung side nila Marcos. Andito na tayo eh sige let’s say we want justice for those Filipino people who died during the Marcos regime but do u have any concrete idea as to why Marcos declared Martial Law? So okay what I wanna do right now is I’ll basically add here what I know about Marcos side based on what I’ve heard from my “credible sources” too. Si Marcos syempre nadatnan nya ng malago ang ekonomiya ng Pinas so isang malaking advantage nya na yun as a president and then hindi naman talaga sya sakim. In fact sinulong nya nga ang agrikultura ng pinas thats why we used to be no. 1 exporters of sugars and rice in the world. Nasa new york times to. He, Marcos started buying stocks in new york during his time. Hindi ka ba nagtataka kung talagang supportado ng amerika si Marcos why did the american government admitted Benigno Aquino in US for his medical operation knowing that Aquino is one of the Marcoses biggest opponent? Duon na nagsimula makatunog si Marcos at tuluyan nya ng ipinasara ang ugnayan ng foreigners sa pinas thats why no foreigners were allowed to buy a property during his time. Ayun so when he started Martial Law first he did not do this para pahirapan ang Pilipino. He did this because he was afraid of losing the pinas to the US again but that was not the intention of US their intention was only to kick Marcos out of the position to prevent pinas from outgrowing them yet they did this in a secretive way and almost done it flawlessly as if itvwas meant to happen ayun nung tumatakas na sya sabi ni marcos i evacuate siya sa paway, magaral ng sibika para malaman nyu kung anu ung paway, but ung crew ng helicopter na kano ang pagkakaintindi hawaii so dinala sya sa hawaii instead of paway. Anway the reason why I know this is because before marcos left the country which actually wasnt part of his plan he first talked to the former executive minister of Iglesia ni Cristo. But I cannot disclose anything about this thing anymore. We dont want to include INC here and we all know that. Just dont ask why not to me. I just cannot and thats the way it is.

Snap 2014,
You said na hindi mo inabot ang term ni Marcos. So how sure are you that all your sources are correct and not bias? hindi ako maka-Marcos, but I have a deep compassion for our nation. So, are you saying that what you are saying here is accurate regarding what you have mentioned “HISTORY.” Be careful! You really don’t know the history. So better be careful. Yes, all of us are entitled to express our opinion. But our opinion can make an influence which can also lead to division. If you can say to me that all the things that you have posted here are the true history, why don’t you go to the office that is respinsible to correct the history of our nation. If you have that courage and strong conviction that you hold the absolute truth based on your sources, then be proud and courageous to broadcast that “truth” or “history” to our fellowmen. I can’t see the strong ground of believing your blog. Sorry, i know that you are also longing to know the truth. I know what you are trying to point out in this blog. Pero kahit anong gawin mo, may lumalabas pa rin that you are blaming Marcos sa mga nangyayari sa ating bansa. You used a comparative strategy of expressing your idea in which it leads to influencing your readers to have a negative perspective against the past of our nation. And the worst is you used words which reveal your own foolishness.
Now, my argument is this, if your concern is to correct the history of our nation, 1)do you think this blog can help to elevate the economic and morality condition of our nation? 2) Marami akong mga kaibigan at kamag-anak na naging biktima sa panahon na iyon, but our family learned to forgive and forget and do something for our nation.

And how sure are you that those “credible sources” are not also victim of lies?Sorry, dami kong nadiscover na truths about the history ng bansa natin and also ang media. Pero I decide to leave all these things to God and do social actions. I am active in doing something for our nation.

O really? Name them please, how sure are you that they are not manipulated by superpowers who controlled the media and history of the Philippines? So may stand is to move on and do something kung ano talaga ang kinahaharap na problema ng bayan ko sa kasalukuyan.

Sana kung sino man yang friend mo, sure ako ang pipiliin niya ay “sorry, forgive and forget.”

I think both of you get me wrong.
Then, try to answer this one.

I-tama? If it is for the sake of correcting the twisted info. about the history of our nation, I am questioning the cridibility of the sources of 2014. Kaya nga ano ang sources niya for his to have that courage to entitle this blog as “Para sa mga Ignoranteng 90s Kids.” If you are a good researchers, you should learn to scrutinize the references or sources of your data or else magiging katawa-tawa ka lang. Now the title is obviously antagonistic for the pro-marcos. Pero I want you to know that hindi ako maka-Marcos. Tumatayo lang ako sa tama. Here is my argument what is the garauntee of the writer of this blog that his sources are absolutely correct and without any bias? For you to have that courage to put a title like this one, dapat sigurado kang walang butas ang ang mga arguments mo, but as I read his blog and scrutinize his own position on this matter, sorry I can say that this is one of the misleading information.
Hahahahahaha….sorry, for all my words. Like what I have said I have sources who are not surely from google, yahoo and write ups that are manipulated by superpowers of our nation.
If you really want justice, go to the senate and do some appeal. Justice ulit? C’mon, be wise! hahahahahahha. History? lol!hahahahahahha…sorry, if I will buy this one to strengthen my identity as a Filipino, TAMA KA ISA AKO SA MGA IGNORANTENG 90 KIDS…hahhahahah

Marcos is certainly not the best president and not the best person to emulate but nobody after him had/has done any better. They still ruled like Marcos but hiding their atrocities behind that so-called democracy, with the ‘presidential system’ as an obsolete system of government, not even the US in which our perspective of democracy was adapted from, barely use that system at all.
Penoy doesn’t have to steal because he’s getting enough backing from his financiers (that’s why his SALN considerably INCREASES since he got his post) whose assets he keeps protecting by ensuring the passing or not passing laws that would benefit his backers, sacrificing the majority of the citizens.
He has done nothing to considerably improve the country’s standing. He only meddled with passing inconsequential laws and muddled his enemies’ reputation so his reputation would look a bit cleaner. The majority perhaps approve of him because of the “Bahala na” mentality. To say that he epitomizes mediocrity is an overstatement. Mediocrity is even a better word for the things he has done or the lack thereof.
Most influential? For one thing Hitler and Stalin were regarded influential.
Since Marcos and even now, I’m still not convinced that our leaders have done enough to elevate our country. Is it because of the leaders, or is it because the form of government that we have that keeps this country afloat the kangkungan?
So people can debate about who the better or best president is, but for me, unless our form of government will be changed, nobody will ever be better in ruling the country.

I got the point of your blog and with additional hints from your replies in the comments section. I understand if you didn’t get the point of my comment. Mine needs a little mind-work and understanding because my comments can make a 360 degree turn depending on my train of thoughts.
My comment wasn’t directly pointing at your blog and I never said that your post was about proving who’s the better president. I was referring to the people (not necessarily you) making a virtual scenario of Marcos vs the other dictators. I care less about that scene so I decided to share my thoughts on something not quite far-fetched.

well, again, my point is not to compare marcos to others. my point is that this is history, this is the truth, and the truth is that marcos made a lot of horrendous things to this country and to Filipinos. if we’re not progressive now, that’s because we’re still suffering from the repercussions of his actions in the past, coupled by other corrupt leaders’ handiwork in the not-so-distant past.

I am a 90s kid myself and I am apalled by the alarming videos and memes on FB glorifying Ferdinand Marcos Sr. It’s such a shame na ang bilis makalimot ng mga so-called makabagong kabataan sa history nila. 🙂 More power to you!
